I love exercise .... weight-lifting, aerobics (step, high-intensity, kick-boxing), and bicycling. I had been running 4 years but replaced it with bicycling and really enjoying the biking now in it's place. I love email and email-discussion groups. I love to read newsgroups...especially alt.comp.virus, gnu.emacs.help, gnu.emacs.gnus, rec.bicycles.marketplace, rec.bicycles.racing, and rec.bicycles.tech. Thank Goodness for bicycling and exercise or I might never leave the house. I have done aerobics for 13 years and have lifted weights since I was 13 years old. I have run multiple 5Ks, 8Ks, and and 10Ks (48:00). I have also done one half-marathon (1:50). The maximum distance I had run was 52 miles in a week. I have subsequently stopped running and started riding bicycles again. I have now been riding 3 years year round.
I own a 27 year old Fuji Newest 10 speed
bicycle with Campagnolo components which I had enjoyed riding. I
bought the Fuji Newest new and had loved it for years. And have
decided that I can't stand seeing it sit around not being ridden for
last two years.... so ... going to make her into a Fixed Gear
Bike. Hope to improve my spinning technique and track stands. And I
hope to use this bike when weather a little on inclement side.
In October 2002 I purchased and had built up a brand new
Trek 5900 USPS Team Superlight. The bicycle was built up at
Far Out Bike Shop ..... and Tony did a beautiful job ! The Trek 5900
was built up with Campagnolo Record components throughout. The bike orignially
had Mavic Open Pro wheels and Campy Record 10 speed hubs/cassette.
However, I purchased some Rolf Vector Pro wheels which I am using on the
bike and I plan to use the Mavic Open Pros
as backups. I purchased Look PP396 Clipless Pedals
and Sidi Genius 4 bicycling shoes which I absolutely love !!
All I can say is awesome bicycle !! A DREAM BIKE !!
About a year ago I got a Softride R1 with Shimano components. Kyserium
SSC wheels which I love. The Softie has a higher gearing which I also
love..... 53/39 and 11-23. I have added Profile Design Aerobars to
both bicycles and love them. I find the aerobars
super-comfortable. And I feel much more powerful with the aerobars. I
feel like my hip extensors or gluts really become much more powerful
in aero position.
I have had the fortune to meet up with some super bicycle riders and some
really super people...... Adam Sager ... Malcolm Mallery .... and Jerry
Webb have been great to ride with and most helpful to my bike riding.
I slowly built up my weekly mileage on the bicycles and have hit 200+
miles on several occasions this year.
Addendum.... 10/14/2004 .... I have ridden in multiple organized century
bicycle races.... Mountains of Misery in Blacksburg, Virginia area and
more recently the Bridge to Bridge Century Callenge race in Hickory, North
Carolina area. I have done The Three Mountain Metric Century and The
Rolling Hills of Randolph...N.C. I rode three days in the Blue Ridge
Mountains starting up near the northern end and headed south into the
North Carolina Blue Ridge. Rode close to three hundred miles and it
was a fantastic ride. Dr. Hermann who organized the trip and rode the
whole length of the Blue Ridge and the other riders made for an
unforgetable trip.
I am loving the Trek 5900, the Campagnolo components and the Rolf Vector
Pro wheels. Presently awaiting a Mavic Cosmic Carbone Front Wheel that
I will be switching from Softride to Trek 5900 as appropriate and
can't wait to try it out.
I have never been in better shape in my life. The bicycling is much
easier on the joints and really gets the heart and lungs in shape.
I am a physical therapist and love it !! I
do home care.
I graduated from Bates College with a B.S. in biology and went to Columbia
University for physical therapy.
I took two years of German in college and I am presently trying to become
fluent in German. I am using Real Player ... Real Audio ... and listening
to German radio stations ... generally news stations like InfoRadio and
Deutsche Welle.> I have just gone from 56K Internet connection to
a Cable
Connection. I love the new speed !! It makes German radio stations much
easier to understand. I purchased a Maltese puppy
who was born
on December 1, 2001. His name is Beau Regarde and I got him from Susan
Bates in Providence Forge, Virginia..... Mystique Maltese. I brought him
home to Danville, Virginia the first part of March 2002. On
his Veternary exam when he was 14 weeks old he weighed 2.3
lbs. He weighed 4.0 lbs. on 7/21/02. At nine months
he weighed 4.8 lbs.He weighed 5.25 lbs. on 12/02/02. I
absolutely love Beau !! He has been so much fun and joy. He is a
real pleasure ! Maltese List was extremely helpful to me in my
purchase of Beau. And I look forward to learning as much
as I can from the Maltese List and from Beau's breeder. He is presently
paper trained in home....is eatingwell.....sleeps in my bedroom. I'm glad
I never had any barking or whining waking me up. He presently performs
commands on either or both audio and visual commands... sit, down, shake,
come, stay, and heel. P.S. I
